"With good employment skills, these young men and women can rise out of the poverty they and generations before them have known. They will better provide for their families. They will serve in the Church and grow in leadership and responsibility."
–President Gordon B. Hinckley, “The Perpetual Education Fund,” Ensign, May 2001

Why BYU Pathway is a Great Choice
✅ 1. Affordable Tuition (especially for international students)
BYU–Pathway is intentionally priced to be accessible. Tuition is significantly lower than most universities—often $79 per credit hour in the U.S. and even less internationally (adjusted to local economies).
This makes it a great option for students who can’t afford traditional college costs.
✅ 2. No Standardized Test Requirement
There’s no ACT, SAT, or TOEFL requirement to start.
It’s open to students regardless of their academic background or English proficiency.
This removes a huge barrier for many learners who have been out of school for a long time or who didn’t perform well in high school.
✅ 3. Designed for Flexibility
Fully online, so students can study anywhere in the world.
Coursework is designed to fit around jobs, family responsibilities, and church service.
Students can progress at their own pace, taking just one or two courses at a time.
✅ 4. Focus on Life Skills and Spiritual Growth
The PathwayConnect program (the first year) focuses on practical skills like personal finance, time management, and decision-making.
Courses integrate gospel principles to strengthen faith while preparing for career and family life.
✅ 5. Smooth Transition to a Degree
After completing PathwayConnect, students are automatically admitted to BYU–Idaho online degree programs (over 40 options).
The first year builds confidence and college-level skills, so students are better prepared for success in their degree.
✅ 6. Supportive Learning Environment
Weekly gatherings with other students (in person or online) provide encouragement, accountability, and a sense of community.
Students get access to mentors, advisors, and a worldwide network of peers who share their values.
✅ 7. Career-Focused Certificates
Students earn career-ready certificates along the way (e.g., social media marketing, web development, business administration).
These certificates can be used to get a job or promotion even before finishing a full degree.
✅ 8. Global Reach with Local Support
Available in more than 180 countries, it’s especially good for international students who may not have access to other higher education options.
Pricing is scaled based on local economies, making it affordable even in developing nations.
✅ 9. Inspired Mission and Values
It’s operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and designed to help students become self-reliant spiritually, academically, and professionally.
Students strengthen faith while gaining skills to improve their lives and families.
Funding for School
The Perpetual Eduction Fund (PEF) is a Church-sponsored endowment offering low-interest (sometimes partly forgiven) loans to members in need, especially in developing countries, for vocational, technical, and degree programs.
Applicants must be Church members, temple-recommended, and show both a financial need and determination to complete their education.
